WP3. Automatic Design
The objective is to specify, develop and test an automatic design system for ophthalmic lenses and frames. More precisely we shall create and implement spectacle design tools and techniques that:
- Adapt pre-designed template frames, based on current fashion trends, to a given individuals' morphological characteristics (parameters) and aesthetic and emotional (persona) preferences. This process also involves choices of individualized decoration and the necessary frame coatings per end-user needs and preferences.
- Design and adapt the lens geometry to selected personalized frames, conform to a person's visual strategy, prescriptions and functional user data. Design color, hard and (anti)reflection coatings of lenses, per the user preferences.
- Create a system that translates frame and lens design requirements and end-user preferences into CNC manufacturing parameters that will drive the machinery (cutting, polishing, AR and hard coating treatments, ink-jet tinting, laser sintering of frames, treatment of frames and ink jetting) in the production workflow.
Main advances to be achieved vis-a-vis the current State of the Art are:
- First automatic system for personalization of frame shapes.
- Definition of reshaping procedures
- Definition of functional adaptation procedures
- First automatic system for personalized frame decoration.
- An improved automatic design system for the personalization of lens geometry.
- First automatic system for matching and parameterization of tints and coatings.
